Ceramic Processing

Our ceramic processing facilities have the capabilities to synthesize and test most different types of ceramics used in aerospace and naval industries. The lab contains over 10 different furnaces with capabilities ranging up to 1700°C in air and 1550°C in inert environments, as well as tube furnaces ranging from 1" to 8" diameter process tubes for both non-inert and inert testing and synthesis up to 1100°C. Most of our tube furnaces are also equipped with vacuum controls to vary the environment inside of the chambers. Our lab mainly focuses on carbon-carbon and silicon carbide-carbon CMCs, but in the past hafnium diboride, hafnium carbide, aluminum nitride, aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, tungsten carbide, tungsten oxide, manganese oxide, magnesium oxide, titanium nitride, titanium carbide, zirconium oxide, and zirconium carbide have been synthesized in our lab.
